2021 Fall Gala auction
This year's featured Gala Artwork, Drawing Lines, by Suzy LaRuffa, is a beautiful scene of Hells Canyon above the Hells Canyon Dam.
The artwork is a wood etching that was then painted, a technique called pyrography. The framed piece will be available to the highest bidder at the auction.

Suzy shares the following about Drawing Lines:
With this piece, I dove hard into line. Concrete lines, transparent lines, lines that define us, and lines we imagine. Nature creates its own lines that support, embrace and create the images we see. Notice my landscape of hard rock, my fragility in the tender plants, my elegance in the swift current and my dirt that spills amongst the crevasses. Man created the dam which gave us the view we see today. I can only imagine the mysteries hidden below, but we can marvel at the cover of scenery currently before us. Contemplate the lines that draw us together, the lines that separate us, the wild river below and the circle of life that keeps us searching for a beauty greater than man can create.
Suzy Lacey LaRuffa moved from Virginia to Oregon in 2000. Growing up in the Appalachian mountains presented a love of rolling hills, colors and textures of the earth. Moving to Oregon inspired a new appreciation of mountains, hues and composition. She lives and works in Portland, Oregon and has been actively showing her work in group shows since 2011. She began working with acrylics shortly after moving to Oregon and since 2010 has blended the love of painting with wood burning. Pyrography or “woodburning” is a form of artwork which appeals to the love of texture and wood. It’s appealing to all of the senses, even hearing, imagine the sound of searing wood when a soft vein presents itself in the process. Her husband Whitney was also a member of the Intrepid Trio that completed the first thru-hike of the Blue Mountains Trail. Visit Suzy's website for more information about her work and to see her full portfolio.

Fall Gala Auction Sponsors
Every year, we aim to make our annual Fall Gala a fun, memorable evening to celebrate these amazing wild places that inspire us all.
2021 once again requires us to remain nimble in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While we'd originally planned to hold an in-person event for our vaccinated members and supporters, the widespread risk of the delta variant was too great. The volunteer Gala Committee has instead opted to move forward with an online Gala Auction in lieu of the in-person event.
