A night of fundraising and advocacy for a wild greater hells canyon region

Saturday, May 8, 2021

This year's event was virtual

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Thank you to everyone who helped us raise some hell for Oregon’s wild lands, water, and habitats!

Hellraiser 2021 celebrated 54 years of Greater Hells Canyon Council's successes. If you missed the event, held on Saturday, May 8, you can watch a replay of it now. While we would have loved to host a live event like years past, this year's event was held virtually.

Hellraiser 2021 featured our work on the Blue Mountains Trail. It included an energizing live auction, and an inspiring presentation from keynote speaker Renee Patrick, Oregon Desert Trail Coordinator from ONDA, who recently completed the first solo thru-hike of the Blue Mountains Trail.

The proceeds from the night enhance Greater Hells Canyon Council's reach to connect, protect, and restore the Greater Hells Canyon Region and help fund our work on the Blue Mountains Trail. We are excited to engage and energize people to get outside and develop a relationship with this special place in the Northwest.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us for an amazing event!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER
RENEE PATRICK
Renee Patrick photo.png

In October 2020, Renee Patrick completed the first solo thru-hike of the Blue Mountains Trail while the route was still in development. She endured 100+ degree days along the crest of the Strawberry Mountains in August and subzero conditions on the Elkhorn Crest in October. Along the way she kept a trail journal and blog, sharing her stories of the amazing landscapes on the trail, the history of the effort and the region, and how recreation and conservation can work toward a common goal.

Renee has logged over 10,000 miles on a multitude of trails in her many thru-hikes. She brings and a rich cross-section of wilderness teaching skills to her work. She completed the triple crown of long-distance trails in the United States—Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail. She has led trail crews, guided wilderness therapy trips, taught lightweight backpacking, and served as the Continental Divide Trail’s first Trail Ambassador.

Renee works for Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA). She is responsible for establishing the 750-mile Oregon Desert Trail, shaping its future, and inspiring others to get out and explore the high desert as much as possible. In addition, Renee leads ONDA’s independent stewards program and is working to educate and inspire others to experience our desert landscapes responsibly. She lives in Bend, Oregon.
